Summer Playlist & Latest Acquisitions Announced
London, Thursday 18th June 2020 – Following on from the success of the Spring Pop-Up Market, Passion Distribution announces the launch of Passion Distribution’s Summer Playlist. The Summer Playlist is the latest in a line of initiatives and collections launched by the leading British distributor as a way of providing quality content for buyers during the current travelling restrictions, with a dedicated space to screen and discover new and returning series via their website.
Key titles in Passion Distribution’s Summer Playlist include:
QE2: INSIDE THE QE2 HOTEL (3 x 60’) from Motion Content Group and Spun Gold, whom Passion Distribution partner with for the first time. This unmissable observational documentary series gives exclusive access onboard the world’s most famous ship, recently transformed into Dubai’s most extraordinary hotel in the one of the grandest acts of recycling ever. The 70,000-tonne vessel has 13 floors, 224 refurbished suites, and a 481 seat theatre. What’s more, at over 50 years old it’s been around longer than Dubai itself.
HOW TO BUILD A CITY (8 x 60’) explores the ingenuity behind the development of major cities including New York, Paris and Tokyo. This fast-paced series tells stories of failure and success, of tragedy and survival, of inventiveness and triumph. How To Build A City brings to life the creative genius of the historical and contemporary engineers, scientists, architects and urban planners who shaped the world’s most stunning cities. Proving that sadly the current pandemic is not an isolated event, EPIDEMIC: THE GREAT PLAGUE from Voltage TV and Motion Content Group for Channel 5, looks back at the devastating 1665 epidemic in an unmissable 3 part television event, which will transform our understanding of the great plague and highlight similarities with the current pandemic.
Also relating to the current health crisis, the insightful documentary THE COUNTRY THAT BEAT THE VIRUS (1 x 60’) looks at how South Korea overcame the coronavirus, and explores what lessons can be learnt by other countries facing the pandemic. Produced by Quicksilver.
Produced in partnership with the world-leading dance company, Sadler’s Wells, DANCEWORKS (8 x 30’) from ClearStory, is a series of intimate, observational films, which take viewers behind the scenes with extraordinary dancers and choreographers from different countries, with diverse backgrounds and styles, at different stages of their careers. The series of films, which includes the Golden Prague Award-winning Dying Swan, follows their process as they create new work and explore ideas and inspirations in dance pieces which are showcased in extended sequences.
Passion Distribution’s Summer Playlist also includes two new insightful documentary series which take an in depth look at war, but both from very different, unique angles. SECRET WARS UNCOVERED (10 x 60’) which forms part of Sky History’s Summer of Secrets launch, and premieres Friday 19th June at 9pm, looks at the shocking facts behind battles that have been hidden from the wider world. Secret Wars Uncovered also marks the first time Passion Distribution have worked with producer CIC Media. FUTURE WARFARE (4 x 60’) produced by Wildbear Entertainment, in contrast, looks at the changing frontiers of war in the 21st century, and how technological innovations created for the military have infiltrated our everyday lives such as the invention of the internet.
The Summer Playlist also sees Passion Distribution once again teaming with producer World of Wonder to deliver an exciting line up of Drag Race spin-offs including RUPAUL'S SECRET CELEBRITY DRAG RACE (4 x 60’), THE VIVIENNE TAKES ON HOLLYWOOD (6 x 15’), GOD SHAVE THE QUEENS (8 x 30’), and HOW’S YOUR HEAD HUN? (8 x 30). Highlighting the continued global success of Drag Race is also CANADA’S DRAG RACE (10 x 60’), which will be premiering on Crave in Canada on 2nd July and on BBC Three in the UK on 3rd July.
In addition to these brand new shows, the Summer Playlist will also highlight some returning series’, including the ever popular RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE: ALL STARS - SEASON 5 (8 x 90’), EMMA WILLIS: DELIVERING BABIES – SPECIAL BIRTHS (2 x 60’) from Firecracker Films and GRIME & PUNISHMENT – SEASON 2 (20 x 60’) from Lambent Productions.
In other news, Passion Distribution also announced the acquisition of two exciting landmark documentary titles.
NUREMBERG: THE NAZI’S ON TRIAL (W/T) is a major new documentary following the twists and turns in Nuremberg Trials courtroom, the war crime prosecutions of Nazi Germany’s leaders for the murders of millions of Jewish people during the Holocaust. Marking the approaching 75th anniversary, the film uses archive and newly digitized filmed content from the era. Produced by Middlechild Productions for Channel 5.
BEYOND OUR EARTH (6 x 60’) charts the history of humankind’s attempts to conquer space. From the beginnings of the space race to the recent unmanned missions to Mars and how our understanding of space is changing dramatically as new discoveries are made. Produced by Wild Bear Entertainment.
