London, 2nd July 2014 - Passion Distribution is pleased to announce a large number of global sales of its high-end factual content from its growing catalogue from The Weather Channel. Passion has an exclusive distribution agreement with the US broadcaster, acquiring over 66 hours of new content from The Weather Channel so far this year.

HURRICANE 360 (8 x 60’) is the eye-opening new series which examines every angle of a storm, from the science behind the storm to piecing together the wreckage, all the while weaving stories together with gripping first-hand accounts. Passion has seen great success with HURRICANE 360, licencing it to Nine Network (Australia), RTL CBS Asia (Pan-Asia), TV4 (Sweden), TV2 (Norway), UKTV (UK) and Viasat Explorer for its feed into Eastern Europe.

In equal tone, Viasat Explorer Easter Europe also licenced the revealing series TORNADO ALLEY (8 x 60’). Each year, more than 2,000 tornadoes occur worldwide. Ripping homes from their foundation in a split second, obliterating towns in the blink of an eye, these twisters are as unpredictable as they are dangerous. TORNADO ALLEY explores deadly tornadoes from every angle, through the eyes of both experts and survivors. Using cutting-edge CGI, the show destroys cities, tells white-knuckle survival stories, and shows, in user-generated content, just how devastating tornadoes can be. Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific picked up the show for Discovery Science under a pan deal spanning 36 countries across the region. Furthermore, TV4 (Sweden), TV2 (Norway) and UKTV (UK) licenced the show.

Additionally for Asia, Discovery Networks picked up the investigative science show WHY PLANES CRASH (13 x 60’). Capturing the zeitgeist of the moment, the show looks at what causes planes to come into trouble and how someone can survive the experience. Watch as pilots and passengers relive the rare and horrifying occasions in which severe weather, human error, technical faults or malice turned routine flights into nightmares. TV4 (Sweden), TV2 (Norway) and UKTV (UK) also picked up the high-adrenaline series.

Concluding current deals of The Weather Channel content, National Geographic Channels International finalised terms in an agreement for the fascinating series BUILDING INVINCIBLE (3 x 60’). The show goes inside what it takes to not only keep structures surviving, but thriving in the face of the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them. From a tornado-proof skyscraper reinforced with enough concrete to fill 57 Olympic-sized pools, to a bridge with shock absorbers so big, they can protect against the power of a massive earthquake, the series explores the most innovative and radical structures modern technology has to offer.

Emma Simpkins, Passion’s Director of Sales, said, “Weather and popular science is hugely topical and in demand right now. There has been a move back to real events, real stories, real disasters and our content from The Weather Channel is the perfect mix of science and dramatic real experiences to draw in a global audience.”
