London, 11th July 2014 - Passion Distribution is excited to announce that it has gained the distribution rights to the gripping documentary DEAD BEHIND BARS (1 x 60’), from UK-based Lambent Productions. The show aired as part of BBC’s Crime and Punishment season, the same as Passion’s successful TEEN KILLERS: LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE (1 x 60’).

DEAD BEHIND BARS looks at the alarming amount of young people who have killed themselves in prison, chronicling the stories of three of these youths, looking at the reasons that contributed to their deaths. Adam Rushton was 20 when he hanged himself from the bars of his bunk bed. Ryan Clark was just 17 when he took his own life in the prison cell where he was on remand and 17-year-old Jake Hardy, who couldn't cope with life inside, was severely bullied and would cry during visits from his mum, took his own life in 2012. Through their stories the film explores the experiences of the children and young people that are locked up and discovers why some of them take their own lives. Similar to TEEN KILLERS: LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE, it asks difficult questions surrounding the sentencing of young offenders.

Passion expects DEAD BEHIND BARS to follow in the footsteps of TEEN KILLERS: LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE which continues to find local homes around the globe. Latest broadcasters to pick up the SnagFilms release TEEN KILLERS: LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE include VGTV (Norway), TV2 (Denmark), SBS (Netherlands) and CBS Reality for its feed into Cyprus, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Africa and the Middle East. The documentary investigates and meets a number of juveniles who are serving life in prison without parole.

Passion’s CEO, Sally Miles, said “Audiences everywhere are intrigued by anything to do with life behind bars and extreme stories. We therefore expect this documentary to have wide appeal and we are delighted to offer it alongside our successful TEEN KILLERS film.”
