Each one hour travels around the world focusing on a food from fugu to toads to venomous snakes, deadly scorpions, spiders and the occasional poisonous plant. “Dining With Death” is a culinary extreme adventure uncovering the powers behind these delicious poisons, and why for centuries man has continued to eat them despite the risk of sudden death.
For generations people have eaten these poisonous living creatures as a way to get the nutrition and protein to survive and over many years man has overcome the barrier of the deadly poison that resides within. We learn how to deactivate the deadly venom and cook up a feast fit for man.
What were once foods to survive on have become major tourist attractions and foreign delicacies. The traveller seeking new adventures and thrills turns to this extreme form of eating by seeking out the tarantulas in the Cambodia food markets, the horseshoe crab in the dangerous waters of Thailand and venomous ulupong snake in The Philippines.
Dining with Death treks through dense forests and outback areas as well as streams of Asian countries including Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Laos to uncover these delicious poisons, encountering potentially dangerous and hazardous situations in the quest.
These series will take the viewer into places and traditions, with mans connection to these deadly foods, that we wouldn’t believe exist. Locals will share their culinary secrets and chefs, as well as researchers and doctors will give their view on the benefits in the foods and what could happen if it went horribly wrong.
